                          My highshool newspaper staff has been toying with the idea of switching from a tabloid style newspaper to some type of magazine. What are the pros and cons of doing a magazine in place of a newspaper or the advantages and disadvantages to staying with a newspaper format? Our main concerns are the cost of each and if we did do a magazine we’d prefer to do color, whereas if we stuck to a newspaper format we’d stay with black and white. The main reason we’re considering this is to help get more students interested in our publications. We feel that with a magazine we could have more creative freedom however with a newspaper we’d be keeping with tradition, so we have the tough decision to make as to whether or not we’d like to switch styles, and we’d like your help. Please include references!

                                                          Recently, I have been seeing a lot of media calling themselves “newsmagazines” when, in fact, their publications look exactly like a newspaper except with a magazine-style cover. Are there any other differences between newspapers and newsmagazines?

                                                          I have read that newsmagazines do more in-depth investigation and reporting, but I am wondering if this is the same type of newsmagazine or if this is refering to more publications such as Time and Newsweek.

                                                                          I get sooooo easily distracted, and writing is more of a hassle for me now than a pleasure. I end up watching more Johnny Depp movies, and once I’m done, I feel more motivated. But the problem is, I feel inspired by the movie I’ve just written to write something just like it…

                                                                                  I was curious who owns the copyright because I was planning on sending the same article to other newspapers. Is this legal, or is it once it’s printed , it can no longer be reprinted even though I wrote it? If they print it in their newspaper, does the newspaper own it? Any advice would be great. Thanks!
